Sexual revenge is on the rise on Facebook, and these are the number of reports daily

Facebook has been working on tools to prevent and remove revenge porn from its apps for years, but that apparently hasn't stopped bad actors from trying to share these images. VBook, which also owns popular apps Instagram and Messenger, has to evaluate about 500,000 reports of sexual retaliation each month, according to a Monday report from NBC News. The company earlier this year launched artificial intelligence tools that can detect revenge porn, also known as irrational intimate images, before users report them.

In 2017, the company also launched a pilot program that allows users to send intimate photos to Facebook in an attempt to prevent them from being shared on the social network. After backlash, the company launched a research program in 2018 to explore how it could better prevent victims of sexual retaliation and support victims. In this regard, Facebook’s head of product policy research said: “When hearing how great your photo sharing experiences were, the product team was excited trying to figure out what we could do better than just responding to the reports.”

Facebook reportedly now has a team of 25 people, including content moderators, focused on preventing the irrational sharing of intimate photos and videos.
