Ukrainian football club Shakhtar raises humanitarian funds through NFT sale

Shakhtar Donetsk, a leading football team in Ukraine, will be selling a batch of non-fungible tokens. The club intends to auction off several signed shirts to raise money for Ukrainian citizens affected by the ongoing war with Russia. FC Shakhtar Donetsk is auctioning digital collectibles with help from Binance.
Binance NFT, the world's leading cryptocurrency exchange, announced on Friday the launch of an NFT collection from FC Shakhtar Donetsk, one of the top professional football clubs in Ukraine.
Next week, Shakhtar will auction nine signed shirts from the “Football for Peace” initiative. The main goal of the initiative is to support Ukrainian children affected by military hostilities in their country by organizing friendly matches and donating ticket proceeds. The auction will start on May 7 and will last for a week, Bianes explained

Since Russia began its military invasion in late February, Ukraine has been increasingly reliant on cryptocurrency donations and has already raised millions of dollars in digital currencies to fund its defense and solve humanitarian problems. Members of the crypto community and other countries have provided or pledged support for these efforts.
Shakhtar was originally based in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, which is currently controlled by pro-Russian separatist forces. The military conflict in the Donbass region forced the football club to move its headquarters to Kiev. Since 2014, Shakhtar has played its home matches in Lviv, Kharkiv and the Ukrainian capital.
