According to the latest eMarketer figures, paid search spending in retail is expected to grow by 22.5% this year. In total, retailers are expected to spend $13.12 billion on search advertising in 2019. Retail spending represents the largest share of search dollars this year at nearly a quarter of the total U.S. search market.
Oscar Orozco, senior forecasting analyst at eMarketer, predicts that this level of spending will continue as voice search rises: "...search advertising has become an increasingly vital marketing strategy for retail marketers to focus their budgets on. As voice search grows, we should also expect to see a continued focus on search for the foreseeable future." Here are some other numbers in the report related to retail advertising: Digital advertising for retailers across all channels is growing by 19.1%.
Retailers are expected to spend $28.33 billion on digital advertising in 2019. More than two-thirds of retailers' digital ad spending will go toward mobile advertising. Mobile phone purchases will grow by 28.9% this year and represent 37% of total retail sales growth.
Desktop/laptop retail sales will grow 4.3% this year, representing just 8% of total retail sales growth. #PaidSearch #RetailSector
