Yet the gap between owning hardware and infrastructure and actually operating a cloud service capable of serving customers can stretch into costly months of delay. That's where startup Netris comes in, offering a solution that promises to bridge this divide in a meaningful way.

The Problem Netris Solves

When a new operator decides to launch a cloud platform purpose-built for training or running AI models — commonly known as a "neurocloud" or "neocloud" — they face a dual challenge: first, acquiring GPUs, networking hardware, and storage; and second, configuring and fine-tuning all these components with great precision before onboarding a single customer. Every additional day these expensive resources sit idle represents a real financial loss.

Historically, large-scale data centers have been the exclusive domain of infrastructure giants like AWS, Google, and Microsoft, all of which have built massive engineering teams to develop their own automation tooling. Smaller, newer operators simply don't have that luxury.

What Netris Actually Does

The company has developed a software platform that runs directly on network switches, enabling neocloud operators to automate provisioning, configuration, and day-to-day operations. Key platform capabilities include:

We need a similar approach, but one fully accelerated at the hardware level — and that's exactly what we've spent eight years building."

No AI Under the Hood

One notable aspect of Netris's product is that it does not rely on artificial intelligence to perform its functions. Instead, it is built on precise, deterministic algorithms developed in-house. Saroyan justifies this design choice: "AI is non-deterministic and can sometimes act autonomously. That's fine for creative tasks, but when it comes to changing thousands of network switch configurations, you don't need creativity — you need absolute precision and consistency."

Nvidia's Endorsement and Notable Customers

Two years ago, Netris delivered a demonstration to Nvidia that led the chip giant to recommend the company to several of its customers. The result of that accumulating momentum is that the platform now runs across more than 35 GPU clusters worldwide, comprising approximately one million graphics processing units, managed by operators including Lightning AI, Foxconn, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Telus, and others.

Series A Round Led by Andreessen Horowitz

Building on this momentum, Netris has announced raising $15 million in a Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with partner Guido Appenzeller joining the company's board of directors.

The company plans to deploy this capital across three primary areas:

• Expanding its engineering and sales teams.

• Advancing its core algorithms with more sophisticated capabilities.
