A Landmark Funding Round Reshapes the Landscape
In a move that reflects the surging interest in AI video generation technologies, Singapore-based PixVerse has announced the closing of an extension to its Series C funding round, bringing the total raised in this round to $439 million. With this fresh capital injection, the company's valuation has crossed the $2 billion threshold, placing it among the top-tier startups in the generative AI sector.
Notable Investors Join the Round
The company had previously completed the first tranche of its round in March, led by CDH Investments, which Bloomberg reports valued at approximately $300 million. The round's extension attracted a diverse range of strategic investors, most notably:
- Technology giant Alibaba Group
- Lollapalooza Capital, Ivy Capital, and Grand Mount Capital
- Eastern Bell Capital, Mirae Asset, BlueFocus, and CloudAlpha
- Returning investors iGlobe Partners and OCBC's Lion X Ventures
This diversity in the investor base signals broad confidence in the company's potential — particularly given that some of these investors, such as Alibaba, are strategic partners with active operational agreements in place.
A Founding Team Blending Technical Vision with Investment Expertise
The company was founded in 2023 by Wang Changhao and Jayden Shi. Wang brings deep technical expertise from his time at ByteDance, where he worked on computer vision technologies that underpinned TikTok's renowned algorithms. Shi, for his part, contributes experience from the investment world, having previously served as an executive at Lighthouse Capital. The two founders believe that the ability to apply precise data labeling — rather than the data itself — is what sets their models apart from the competition.
Shi elaborated on this philosophy, saying: "The secret isn't in having the data — it's everywhere. It's in how you label it. My co-founder's experience at ByteDance allowed him to build nuanced visual understanding technologies, and that expertise directly translates into the quality of our video generation models."
Multiple Product Lines for Diverse Needs
PixVerse offers three primary model lines:
- V Series: Designed for everyday users and developers via API
- C Series: Built for professional cinematic and commercial production
- R Series: World Models tailored for game development and virtual environment creation
These models support video generation at resolutions up to 4K with native audio integration, offered at a competitive price starting from $4.80 per minute of generated video. The company reports that its consumer platform has grown to over 150 million registered users, approximately 15 million of whom are monthly active users.
A Growing Market with Fierce Competition
Despite PixVerse's strong momentum, the AI video generation sector faces intense competition from all directions. In Asia, ByteDance's Seedance and Kling AI have emerged as formidable rivals, while in the West, companies such as Runway, Midjourney, and Luma are all vying for a share of the same market. Adding to the competitive pressure is the rising wave of World Models being developed by startups backed by prominent figures including Yann LeCun and Fei-Fei Li.
The founders, however, believe the true competitive field is narrower than it appears. Shi notes that several major players have effectively dropped out of the race or have failed to deliver outputs at the required quality level.
Expansion Plans and Spending Priorities
The company intends to deploy the new funding across three key areas: expanding its research and development team, strengthening its go-to-market capabilities, and launching new model versions throughout the current year. PixVerse currently operates from offices across Singapore, Beijing, and Shanghai, with a team of 150 employees — and a clear ambition to transform its platform into a global infrastructure for AI-powered visual content production.
