Savi Security: The App That Protects Your Family from AI-Powered Scams

When Fraud Sounds Like a Loved One's Voice
Imagine your mother's phone rings, her daughter's number appears on the screen, and she hears a voice that sounds exactly like her saying: "Mom, I've been kidnapped." Then an unknown man cuts in, demanding $1,200 for her life. This isn't a movie plot — it's a real incident that happened to the mother of co-founders Patrick and Ryan Coughlin, and it was the spark that ignited the idea for their new venture.
The good news is that their mother handled it well: she called her daughter directly and confirmed she was safe. But the incident exposed a troubling reality — criminals can now clone anyone's voice from as little as three seconds of audio posted on social media, and use it to run sophisticated extortion schemes targeting ordinary people.
From Defending Institutions to Protecting Individuals
Patrick Coughlin is no stranger to the world of cybersecurity. He has worked in U.S. national cyber defense and served as Executive Vice President of Security Products at Cisco, following Splunk's acquisition of his startup TruSTAR for approximately $82 million. His brother Ryan brings extensive experience in consumer product development from his time at Apple and Spotify.
What struck Patrick after that incident was that sophisticated threat tools — once exclusive to government agencies and large enterprises — are now accessible to virtually any cybercriminal at near-zero cost. "Large language models and generative AI tools have removed both the financial and technical barriers to large-scale fraud," he says. "Targeting everyday individuals has become just as profitable as targeting banks and governments used to be."
Savi Security: A Digital Shield for the Whole Family
From this realization, Savi Security was born. The company recently announced the launch of its app for iOS and Android, following a $7 million seed funding round led by Acrew Capital, with participation from several venture capital firms.
The app is powered by an AI model trained on real-world data collected through the free website Scamwise, which allowed users to upload suspicious messages and emails for verification. In just four months, submissions surpassed 100,000 cases, providing a wealth of real-world data to sharpen detection accuracy.
Savi distinguishes itself from competitors across three key areas:
- Text and email screening: The app analyzes incoming content and alerts the user whenever it detects signs of a scam.
- Voicemail and call filtering: The app screens suspicious calls before the user even has to answer them.
- Live call monitoring: This is Savi's standout feature. During a suspicious call, users can activate a listening mode that allows the AI to follow the conversation in real time, identify behavioral patterns associated with fraud, and instantly alert the user.
A Pricing Model Built for Everyone
Savi has taken a different approach to pricing. Rather than a typical individual subscription, a single plan at $8 per month (or $63 per year) covers an entire family with no limit on the number of users. This means a tech-savvy adult child can add parents, grandparents, and any other relatives to the same plan and manage their digital protection centrally.
The Numbers Speak: Digital Fraud Is a Growing Epidemic
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission reported that losses to online scams reached $3.5 billion in 2025 — three times the figure recorded in 2020. And the victims aren't only older adults. A recent Malwarebytes study found that Gen Z is exposed to more text-based phishing attempts than any other generation, and falls for them at a rate of nearly 25%.
Against this backdrop, Savi Security positions itself as a new generation of protective software — one that doesn't merely detect threats after the fact like traditional antivirus programs, but confronts them at the moment they occur. It deploys the very same AI that scammers use as a weapon and turns it into a shield in the hands of everyday users.
