Email apps are collecting personal data from their users' inboxes and selling it to third parties for profit, according to reports.

The free email apps offered by Edison work

Cleanfox and Slice earn money by scraping personal information from emails, according to a JP Morgan document.

In particular, transaction data in inboxes, including receipts and shipping emails, helps third-party travel, finance, and e-commerce companies monitor user behavior.

Third parties could buy and use the data to make better investment decisions, the report says.

There is the Edison email application

It is in the top 100 productivity apps on the Apple App Store and has millions of users around the world. Unfortunately, these applications claim on their sites that the solutions they provide are not offered

Advertisements, maintains privacy, and does not sell any data. In response to the report, Edison said in a blog post: “Edison puts privacy first in everything we do as a company, and that includes educating our users about how they use us.”

"To keep Edison Mail free and to protect your privacy by rejecting an advertising-based business model, our company Edison measures

Software e-commerce through technology that automatically recognizes commercial emails and extracts anonymous purchasing information from them.”

The company added that it allows its users to cancel subscriptions

Share data through application settings and solutions you provide. The document adds that the “source” of the data is “the Edison email application.”

A Wall Street Journal report in 2018 revealed that Edison employees were reading users' emails in order to improve the app's Smart Replies feature.

Edison says on its website that it can provide customers with “detailed behavior patterns to improve your customers’ experience and business results.”

The company told the media that it “does not engage in any ad targeting,” nor does it “allow others to target ads to our users.”

An Edison spokesperson told the media: “We strive to be more transparent about our business practices in our communications, Edison website, privacy policy, blogs, and our app store pages.

Our social and business applications.” #email #spying
