Emirates Airlines launches NFTs and experiences in the Metaverse

The UAE airline has announced plans to launch non-fungible tokens (NFT) and metaverse experiences for its workers and customers. The launch is in line with the digital economy and virtual assets initiatives in the UAE. First projects already underway Emirates said it will soon launch non-fungible tokens (NFT) and “exciting experiences in the metaverse” for its customers as well as its workers.

According to the airline, this step is in line with developments in the UAE's digital economy as well as with initiatives related to the country's virtual assets. In a recent statement, the airline noted that work on the first projects is already underway with “launch expected in the coming months.” Commenting on Emirates' NFT plans, the airline's Chairman and CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum pointed to his company's history of adopting advanced technologies.

UAE's vision for the digital economy Al Maktoum shared what Emirates hopes to achieve by launching NFTs. He said: “We are excited about the opportunities available in the digital space for the future and are committed to significant investments in funding and resources, to develop products and services using advanced technologies that will drive revenue, brand experience and business efficiencies.” In order to help put Emirates on the path to achieving these goals, the CEO said that the Emirates pavilion at the Air Expo “will be repurposed as a hub to develop cutting-edge future experiences in line with the UAE’s vision for the digital economy.” The airline’s statement also said that Emirates will continue to work with its partners on matters related to its Web3 strategy.
