The end of the classic version of YouTube

Google plans to discontinue the older YouTube desktop interface starting March 2020, nearly three years after introducing the new version. In August 2017, a new design was launched for the desktop, which is more compatible with mobile phones and is different from previous versions. The platform has introduced many new features in the past few years, all of which are not available in the older desktop version, which is why Google decided to stop offering the old version of YouTube.

Starting next month, users will have access to the current version of the site's design and will no longer be able to go back to the old version. People who are still using the old interface will start seeing notifications advising them to switch to the new version with some quick instructions for using it. “The new design applies the latest design standards for websites and apps and provides a new, simple and intuitive user experience that allows content to stand out and interact with it, because there is nothing more important than creators and the videos that we all love to watch. My favorite feature of this new desktop design is the Dark Theme, which turns the background dark while you watch for a more cinematic look.”

The company worked to make the thumbnails of the video clips in the main page larger, in addition to displaying the latest posts in the community feature in which the channels publish. It is expected that with millions of users switching towards the latest design, there will be some effects on views of video clips, especially from the main ones.
