Amazon Pay integrates with Worldpay to spread more in the e-commerce sector

Amazon excels when it comes to e-commerce marketplaces in countries like the US, and it has announced a deal that it hopes will be the beginning of its plan to gain the same leverage from a presence outside its traditional markets, which is why the company has signed a deal with Worldpay. This means that Worldpay, one of the most ubiquitous payment technology providers, which processes 40 billion transactions worth about $1.7 trillion annually across 300 payment options and 120 currencies, will now offer Amazon Pay as part of the mix, so any merchant can offer this as a payment and shipping option to their customers. The deal is announced the same week that Worldpay has some other news of its own: it has been acquired by Fidelity National Information Services in a $43 billion deal.

Speaking to TechCrunch about the Amazon Pay news, Asif Ramji, chief product and marketing officer at Worldpay, confirmed that the acquisition will have no impact on this Amazon deal. The company said that the primary focus of the deal will be to cover digital payments mainly for online merchants, but not just on websites themselves. “The focus is on the connected experience, and we are leaning into other types of connected devices,” he said. The lure for merchants goes something like this: Linking to Amazon Pay gives buyers the option to choose from a list of active addresses and payment options that they will actually use to purchase on Amazon.
